Video: Pervasive and Persuasive
Video is not limited to the images that we see coming from our television sets anymore. The video today is making its way into every aspect of our lives. It is quickly changing the consumer market and is doing so by the images that are moving across the screen.
In his article “47 Outrageous Viral Marketing Examples” , Jesse Grainger ranks the Kraft company in the top ten for using video and peoples creative impulse to get people to spend almost an hour on their website creating short videos. The site “Cheesy Movies” ran in coordination with their back to school marketing campaign.
The internet has changed the way we view video. Viewing and downloading video over the internet, or “streaming media” is one of the many ways the television is changing its identity. Internet access is helping television push its way into the workforce, as well as our homes. i-Pods, i-Phones, and PDA’s among other means has helped video creep into our personal lives. Moving billboards, GPS systems, gaming consoles, and WIFI are other examples of how video has become easily integrated into our lives as well.
According to Pervasive.TV there are 108 million U.S. homes using T.V. and at least 52 million broadband PC’s regularly streaming video.
With the influx of video in the home, and office, and well… EVERYWHERE, there are many opportunities to “seize the moment” in advertising. However, the video must be interesting! Video has to be engaging before it can be persuasive. Bryan Clark of Copyblogger says, “The idea is to get someone to start watching and keep watching until the end, or at least to the point where you prompt the viewer to take a desired action.”
